In the spring of 2024, I directed Michael McKeever’s Suite Surrender with Sock & Buskin. Our amazing cast put on three excellent shows, with live singing, choreographed fight scenes, and a lot of laughs.
The show is a farce in which two 1940s Hollywood divas/singers are accidentally assigned the same suite in a fancy hotel. This wouldn’t be such a problem, except that everyone knows the two women are mortal enemies and have had a series of massive blow-out fights. Hotel staff and the women’s managers try to keep them from seeing one another, while the manager frantically tries to prevent a nosy reporter from getting the inside scoop.
In addition to the comedy, Suite Surrender included song and dance numbers, largely choreographed by Joe Appel, who was the assistant director and stage manager.
